The City of Urbana Places Levy on May 8 Ballot

On December 5, 2017, the Urbana City Council approved Ordinance 4486-17 to place the City’s first income tax increase since 1992 before the voters.  The ballot initiative calls for replacing the current additional tax of four-tenths of one-percent (.4%) with a one-percent (1%), which would bring the new income tax rate to two-percent (2.0%).  Again the emphasis is being placed where the greatest need exists, safety services.  With calls-for-service increasing and available resources limited, the need is real and the time is now.

In an effort to provide the public as much information as possible, the following questions and answers (FAQs) have been developed and are intended to help answer questions related to the need for this increase.
