Road Closure Notice-US 36 East
On Monday, April 10, 2017, US Route 36 East between Berwick Drive and Dugan Road is scheduled to close for 90 days to thru traffic due to a planned construction project in this corridor. During the closure period, businesses will remain accessible to local traffic. The planned detour route for US Route 36 is State Route 814, State Route 296, and US Route 68.
This $1,338,250.98 construction project has been planned since 2013 and it involves two major phases. The first phase is the construction of new stormwater infrastructure within the project area, including the construction of a new closed stormwater system of conduits and catch basins to replace open ditches. The stormwater phase of the project is funded in part by a $400,000.00 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. The second phase of the project is designed to improve pedestrian access, connectivity, and safety within the project corridor. This phase will install curbing, sidewalks, street lighting, trees, and a pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian portion of the project is funded in part by an approximately $611,772.34 Transportation Alternatives Program grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation. The balance of the project funding is local funding through the City of Urbana. In addition, Urbana Township is providing local funding for the stormwater portion of the project that benefits properties that have not been annexed into the City of Urbana.
By September 15, 2017, the contractor, J&J Schlaegel, Inc. is required to have the project ready for a separate resurfacing project that is planned by the Ohio Department of Transportation. The improvements project is required to be completed by October 31, 2017, and the resurfacing project is anticipated to be complete by the end of the paving season.
If you have specific questions about the project, please contact City Engineer, Tyler Bumbalough, by calling (937) 652-4324 or by email: email@example.com.
